Financial Controller

JOB SUMMARY

The Controller collaborates with the executive team to provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership for the Agency by planning and directing the accounting operation.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leads the day-to-day operations of the Accounting Department, which includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, P&L statements, general ledger, bank reconciliations, treasury, payroll, and 401(k) enrollment/management.
  • Oversees the intersection of financial, legal, personnel, and internal affairs of the Agency. Position is supported by internal accounting team members and outside accounting, human resources, and legal consultants.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  • Supervises the production of monthly and periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and standards.
  • Oversees Client billing for the Company.
  • Manages expense reimbursement systems for employees.
  • Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
  • Provides financial analysis, emphasizing capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
  • Works with external auditors and provides needed information for audits.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
  • Contributes financial leadership and expertise to corporate strategy and operations.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Familiarity and proficiency with NetSuite are a plus.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • BA or BS in accounting or finance
  • Experience with advertising agency account procedures.
  • 7+years of relevant, progressive Accounting/Controller experience.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and maintain cooperative-working relationships while positively influencing the Agency’s culture and work environment.
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation preferred.
